Syria condemns US-UK attack against its bus
Syria-USA, Politics, 3/25/2003

A Syrian official source yesterday said the following: The American- British planes on Sunday, March 23 bombed a Syrian civilian bus carrying Syrian workers working in Iraq on their way back to Syria. This criminal act resulted in killing five Syrians and others were wounded.

Since this act constitutes a violation of Geneva agreement for 1949 pertaining to the protection of civilians during the time of war and additional protocols, the government of the Syria denounces this act and reserves itself to demand compensation according to the rules of the enforced international law.

The foreign ministry summoned the ambassadors of Britain and the USA and officially protested against the aggression and stressed its rights to reserve demanding compensation and warned against the danger of targeting innocent civilians.

On the other hand, the chairman of the French- Arab friendship society Lucien Bitterlane strongly denounced that American missile bombardment of a Syrian civilian passengers bus, describing this incident as a cowardly act.

In a statement issued in Paris yesterday Bitterlain held the American officials the responsibility for this painful incident and his commiseration for President Bashar al-Assad, for the Syrian people and the families of the victims.
