Al-Shara confers with Iraqi counterpart
Iraq-Syria, Politics, 3/24/2003

Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara received on Sunday his Iraqi counterpart, Naji Sabri. Talks during the meeting dealt with the dangerous developments of the US.-British "aggressive war on Iraq."

Al-Shara was briefed by Sabri on the military operations against Iraq and the Iraqi people resistance to the invading troops.

Sabri indicated that the American-British troops are resorting to psychological war and information deception in an attempt to break the will of the Iraqi people, and weaken their resistance.

He expressed high appreciation of the Syrian leadership's stance with the regard to the aggression on Iraq.

For his part, al-Shara expressed Syria's condemnation of such a "brutal aggression to which the Iraqi people and the integrity and unity of land are being exposed."

He called the United Nations to assume its role in dealing with this issue since it is the only reference with regard to such difficult circumstances.

Talks between al-Shara and Sabri dealt with the Arab Foreign Ministers Meeting which is scheduled to be held in Cairo Monday and with the Arab and international efforts which are being exerted to halt aggression and to withdraw the invading troops out of Iraq to preserve security and peace in the region.

Following his meeting with al-Shara, he expressed high appreciation over Syria's principled and firm stance under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad against the illegal and unjust aggression on the Iraqi people.

In a statement to reporters following his meeting with al-Shara, he stressed that Iraqi people will remain steadfast and have a faith in their just cause whatever sacrifices it may require.

Regarding the US official statements on the situation in Iraq, he underlined that such statements fall within the framework of propaganda.
