Another black thursday in history and worst humanitarian catastrophe of modern times, Moroccan press
Morocco-Iraq, Politics, 3/21/2003
The Moroccan press called the US war against Iraq "another black Thursday in the world history" and "the worst catastrophe in modern times."
"Maroc Ouest" writes that "Bush, Saddam and the UNO will be the biggest losers of this carnage" that reflects "the victory of terrorism and religious radicalism and a checkmate for the Arab world that is collapsing."
On its part "Aujourd'hui le Maroc" reminds "all those who chose to ignore that war is an absolutely unjustifiable evil" that war "kills thousands of innocent people" and is "the climax of barbarity."
"The first victim of "this disproportionate war" is "international law," concludes "Attajammu" which argues that no one can predict the hazards of "the worst catastrophe" of modern times on humanity, the Iraqi people and the Gulf countries.
"Al Haraka" warns that war on Iraq will "plunge the whole world in a difficult juncture and give birth to policies that might resuscitate cold wars between superpowers, entailing a revision of the world order and a stimulation of conflicts at the expense of solidarity for peace."
For "Al Alam," when conquerors will triumph, a war of another kind, that cannot be compared to demonstrations repressed by some governments and authorized by other, will rage on, and that is what the US administration calls terrorism.
Another warning was launched by "L'opinion" which sees that "America will get out of the war rich with some oil wells, but it is taking the risk of another oil shock and a financial crash that could lead to a long economic recession, or even a genuine crisis."
For "Attajdid," the world is reaching the conclusion that America is not the leader of a free world but a leader of conquests, aggressions, violations of humans and peoples rights, of wars and of anarchy."
Other dailies also draw the attention to the impact of the war on Moroccan economy and expect, based on forecasts of Moroccan think-tank "CMC" a drop of 1.7% in the GDP.
