Al-Assad postpones government reshuffle
Syria, Politics, 3/20/2003

The speaker of the Syrian parliament Naji al-Otari condemned the American "hegemony" and the "repressive" war the US launches against Iraq.

The Syrian official News agency SANA quoted al-Otari, who was elected on March 9th as a new speaker for the Syrian parliament, his condemnation for the "repressive aggression the forces violating the international legitimacy are preparing to launch against Iraq's people and territories." He said that "tens of thousands of millions in various parts of the world said "'no' for war, 'no' for the invasion and 'no' for the aggression," noting that the "forces of aggression" today threaten to "kill the people of Iraq and to destroy the Iraq of history and human civilization."

On the other hand, the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad postponed any possibilities for any governmental reshuffle expected by a decree for the nomination of Lattakia's governor Safi Abu Wdan as a deputy premier for services to replace al-Otari.
