Saudi Arabia denies proposal for Hussein's resigning, Bahrain proposes to host him
Bahrain-Iraq, Politics, 3/20/2003

Bahrain yesterday proposed to host the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein if he decides to resign and leave, while Saudi Arabia denied a press report that it proposed the resignation of Saddam Hussein to avoid the American war.

Bahrain's news agency quoted the king of Bahrain as saying in a special meeting for the Bahrain's cabinet that Bahrain "is ready to host the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein if he wants to live in it."

Bahrain is the headquarters of the fifth American fleet which will have a main role in a war against Baghdad.

Bahrain also assumes the current presidency of the Arab summit. Bahrain's minister of information Nabil al-Humr said that the Bahraini offer was conveyed to Saddam Hussein "through diplomatic channels."
