Vatican denounces Bush's speech: He shoulders responsibility before God, history
Iraq-Vatican, Politics, 3/19/2003
The Vatican has increased the level of criticism of the American administration to its maximum. It considered yesterday, commenting on the last warning by the US President George Bush to his Iraqi counterpart Saddam Hussein to leave Baghdad within 48 hours that the US shoulders "grave responsibility before the God and History."
In a short statement led by the spokesman of the Pope, Jawakim Vals, said "one who decided that all peaceful means availed by the international law is used, is the one who shoulders a grave responsibility before the God, his conscience and the history." Though the Vatican's statement did not mention Bush in name, However, Vals indicated that his statements comes in response to the speech delivered by the US President on Monday.
The Vatican had announced it will not pull out its diplomats from Baghdad in case a war erupts.
It is worth noting that Bush during his presidential election debates declared that his favorite philosopher was Jesus Christ -- a man who to many symbolized the essence of peaceful ways and forgiveness of the guilty, let alone those whose guilt have not been proven.
