Arab workers and writers statement on the Iraqi issue
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 3/19/2003
Secretariat General of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions has called the Arab citizens to move quickly and fight for their existence.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Secretariat underlined the necessity to extend material and moral support to the Iraqi people's steadfastness to defend their destiny, unity, land, and national authority in the face of the US aggression.
The secretariat stressed the "necessity for boycotting any facilities that may be offered to the aggressive forces against Iraqi people, including enemy ships and warplanes."
It also stressed the importance of staging more popular demonstrations protesting war.
A similar call to avert war was voiced by the Arab Writers General Federation in which the Americans were urged exert all possible efforts to force Bush and his administration to stop the aggression against Iraq.
The federation called the Americans to use their democracy to pressure the American administration to respect the international law, and to be committed to the international democracy.
The federation pointed out that "the Arab citizens don't hate the Americans and don't want to lose good relations with them just because of those who are thirsty for blood and want to lead the world to death and destruction, and to serve Israel and its aggressive practices that are very hostile to every culture, religion, and citizens."
Meantime, General Union of Arab Writers condemned yesterday American war threats against Iraq in violation of the UN Security Council resolution No.1441, international law and the world opinion.
In a statement issued today the Union considered the United States responsible for the Iraqi destruction and sufferings as well as the negative repercussion of such a war on the region and the world as a whole.
The statement called all Arab writers to stand by the Iraqi people and to support them in their legitimate fight against the American danger that threatens their country.
The statement also stressed that the American war against Iraq is just a part of the American plan that aims at controlling the wealth of the region and executing the Israeli projects in Palestine.
