Arab League chief abrogates visit to Baghdad

An official source at the Arab League has announced that the visit of the secretary general of the Arab League Amr Moussa to Baghdad was canceled because it is not possible to carry out this visit at the meantime.

The source which asked to be anonymous said that Moussa intended to head for Iraq before the warning which was addressed by the American President George Bush to the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and his two sons of quit the authority within 48 hours.

The information center of the Iraqi information ministry announced earlier yesterday that Moussa is on his way to Baghdad and that the plane which was carrying him had entered the Iraqi airspace.

However, the secretary general of the AL is still in Cairo, according to an official source at the Arab league, stressing that the visit was abrogated "because conditions are not suitable." The source stressed that the AL chief was intending to head for Baghdad on board of a private plane before the American warning, noting that there was a possibility during recent hours to hold the visit and hold talks with the Iraqi officials after canceling the visit of the Arab League delegation.

Worthy mentioning that Baghdad has postponed a visit by the Arab Ministerial committee stemmed from Sharm esh Sheikh conference Ð last Friday. N.
