Tourism office extends associations us$ one mln to promote cultural festivals

The Moroccan tourism office extended on Thursday 10 million DH (US$ one million) to nine associations that organize annual cultural festivals in various Moroccan regions.

The office will be extending these associations subsidies ranging between 100,000 and one million DH for each one of the nine cultural festival organizers.

Two associations, that organize the roses and the dates festival, will obtain three million DH (US$ 300,000).

Recipient festivals are the Fez festival of world sacred music, the Marrakech festival of Moroccan popular arts, The Essaouira Gnaoua and world music Festival, the musical spring of Alizes (Essaouira), Rabat international festival, Rabat's international festival of culture and arts, Rabat festival of the world rhythms, desert music festival, Assilah's cultural international festival, Festival of popular and nomadic music the music festival of Casablanca.

Moroccan tourism minister, Adil Douiri, who supervised the signing ceremony between the ONMT and the associations, underscored the importance of festivals in promoting tourism in Morocco and facing competition from other Mediterranean countries.
