Coptic Church: attacking Iraq is against Christianity
Iraq-Egypt, Politics, 3/12/2003

The Coptic Orthodox Church sent a message to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan urging the international organisation to maintain the international legitimacy and prevent an unjust war against the Iraqi people.

Archpriest Matta Saweras, member of the denominational council, has handed over a message in the name of Pope Shenouda III of Alexandria and Patriarch of St Mark Diocese to the UN representative in Baghdad during a recent visit to Iraq.

Saweras told MENA that despite present difficult times, the Iraqi people are in high morale and ready to defend their lands against a possible American attack.

He added that Iraq showed cooperation with the international arms inspectors and that there is no justification for this American attack that contradicts heavenly religions especially Christianity.
