Le Figaro: Qathafi: US policy is radicalizing people; proposes Palestinian- Israeli solution
Libya-Regional, Politics, 3/12/2003
Libya's Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi said that there is no justification for the stands supporting war by the US against Iraq and that if a quick victory of a military intervention will take place it will be followed by a catastrophe. He proposed Lebanon as an example for the solution of the Palestinian - Israeli conflict.
In an interview issued by the French daily Le Figaro on Monday, Al Qathafi added "we have a saying that one who laughs in the beginning always cried by the endÉ After their preliminary victory the Americans will run the risk of a catastrophe."
He indicated that by pursuing of US current policy towards Iraq, the US is radicalising many people and in the process indirectly assisting Osama Bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaida organization. He said "in confrontation of the already overwhelming America, Bin Laden pictures himself as a savior. People in most of the Arab states consider Bin Laden as a hero for resistance."
Al Qathafi was asked if he thinks that the Iraqi President has the means to send fighters to parts of the world, he said: "the day the US goes to war it has to expect the worse. All scenarios will be then possible." He added that after Iraq, the USA will define its next targets which might include Iran, Saudi Arabia and Libya.
On the other hand Al Qathafi repeated he had found the proper name for the a united country which permits the Israelis and the Palestinians to coexist together in peace, which is the state of "Isratin."
He added that "liquidating certain people and expulsion of others are impossible.. The only solution is to establish a united sate that permits the Israelis and the Palestinians to coexist peacefully and I found the name of this state. It is the state of 'Isratin.'" According to Qathafi "this example is typically found in Lebanon, the country which has succeeded in unifying various religions and people in one entity."
