Moroccan bank group opens consulting branch in Senegal
Morocco-Senegal, Business, 3/11/2003
Moroccan BMCE Bank group has opened this Monday in Dakar a branch called "BMCE Capital Senegal" to offer expertise and consulting in financial matters to local economic operators.
"BMCE Capital Senegal" is designed to provide public and private enterprises and institutions the needed expertise for the implementation of privatization programs and in the concession of public utilities such as water, electricity, transport and telecommunications. The Dakar branch, part of the group expansion abroad, will also be supporting the state treasury's active management of its debts and in seeking new funds.
Other fields of activities include contributing to new funds restructuring for the government and domestic and foreign fund donors destined for equipment, industrial, energy and infrastructure projects. The BMCE CEO Othmane Benjelloun also launched on Saturday in the presence of the Senegalese presidential couple in the village of M'Bissao (50 km northwest of Dakar) a community school, for a total cost of 200 million CFA Francs (about US$ 300,000). The community school, part of the BMCE bank foundation's medersat.com project, provides a space of learning that is also a center for community economic and cultural development.
Each school has a polyvalent space for meetings/parties and a converging point of complementary programs. The local population is closely involved in the project that uses local construction materials and know-how. The schools are managed by associations representing the population and a pedagogical team of educators-managers who have training adapted to the specific teaching and education in a rural milieu.
