Mrs. Mubarak stresses literature in child development

Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak said that the call for war should be turned into an invitation for cooperation for a better future of mankind.

Mrs. Mubarak was speaking at a celebration marking the declaration of winners of the 2002 child literature prizes.

She described child literature as the finest forms of creativity and said each child should have books.

Mrs. Mubarak said that the war machine should be grounded and construction should be unleashed for a better world for the coming generations.

She said she has a strong faith in the importance of child books for their influence on the personalities of kids. "One cannot imagine a child's world without a book.

There can be no childhood without the phrase once upon a time," Mrs. Mubarak said.

Mrs. Mubarak said the year 2002 witnessed regional and international efforts to boost the quest for developing child literature with the establishment of the Arab council for child and minor books as the first Arab mechanism for a better Arab child book.

"The one million book, initiative was also launched to highlight the importance of reading at the early stage of life," she added.
