Morocco, Mauritania see creation of infrastructure joint ventures
Mauritania-Morocco, Economics, 3/8/2003
The Moroccan-Mauritanian commission of cooperation in transport and equipment called Thursday for the creation of joint ventures to carry out construction and public works projects.
The commission, which met in the Mauritanian capital city, recommended that private sectors of the two states efficiently contribute to enhancing integration between the two north African countries by setting up joint ventures to make offers for public bids for major equipment and infrastructure projects.
Specialized enterprises were also called to tap on the bilateral cooperation program in port dredging and operating and to carry on cooperation between the Casablanca and Nouakchott ports and the Agadir and Nouadhibou ports.
The commission further recommended the implementation of other cooperation programs, mainly the 2002 agreement on merchant navy and the 2000 accord on airports operation signed between Morocco's airports office and the Mauritanian airports society.
The Nouakchott-Nouadhibou road was hailed as an important milestone in bilateral economic cooperation and integration and an important axis of communication between the two peoples.
