Despite hardened positions on Iraq in Security Council, Annan looks for 'calm' discussion
Although positions in the Security Council are "hard," Secretary-General Kofi Annan said yesterday, the 15-nation body will have a chance to discuss how to proceed with the disarmament of Iraq "calmly" at a meeting today to hear an update by top United Nations weapons inspector Hans Blix.

102 passengers killed in a plane crash south of Algeria
Some 102 persons were killed in a Boeing 737 plane crash for the Algerian airlines. Naval forces said that the plane was carrying 97 passengers and unknown number of crew, adding that one person at least survived the crash and had wounds.
