World rejection of War On Iraq
Regional-Iraq, Politics, 3/7/2003

Pointing out that the Iraqi issue is better solved peacefully, France, Germany and Russia have stressed their refusal to any new resolution that allows the United States to use military forces against Iraq.

French Foreign Minister, Dominique de Villepin, said in a joint statement with the presence of the Russian foreign Minister, Igor Ivanov, and his German Counterpart, Joschka Fischer, that Russia and France, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, shoulder the responsibility to ensure a peaceful solution to the Iraqi issue.

Secretaries General of the National Security Councils in Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine also stressed the importance of solving the Iraqi issue peacefully.

A similar opposition to the war was voiced by the Iranian President, Mohammed Khatami, who has stressed that the American military intervention in Iraq will shake security and stability in the region and threaten all countries interests including America.

For his part, the German Chancellor, Gerhard Schroder, promised to continue rejecting war against Iraq.

In a statement, the German Foreign Minister, Fischer reiterated his country's rejection of this possible war, and held the responsibility on the US.

For its part, the Greek parliament has underlined the importance of averting war, and announced that their country should not take part in it, directly or indirectly. Britain is reported to be softening its hard views in the face of domestic and strong international opposition to war.
