Qathafi opposes summoning the Libyan ambassador to Saudi Arabia

Libya's Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi has announced that he opposes summoning his country's ambassador to Riyadh, stressing that he was not informed about what had happened in this regard.

In an interview with the Egyptian TV broadcast on Tuesday Al Qathafi said replying to a question to this effect " I have heard about that from one of the TV channels and was surprised by it," adding "I know nothing about this decision."

He explained that "the people's committee for foreign affairs is the side responsible for these matters." The Libyan leader added "I do oppose this measure in case it was taken because relations between the two countries should not be severed even if the war erupts."

On the rift between him and the Saudi crown prince Abdullah, he indicated the friendship and fraternal relations with crown prince Abdullah, stressing "I can not burn every thing in a minute of anger." The Libyan general people's congress ( the parliament) has taken the decision of summoning the ambassador to Riyadh, expressing its "regret over the campaign al-Qathafi was exposed by the Saudi crown prince," according to an official Libyan source.

Worthy mentioning that relations between Libya and Saudi Arabia had witnesses several tensions since Al Qathafi accession to power in Libya in 1969. These relations improved following a joint mediation by Saudi Arabia and South Africa to solve the Lockerbie crisis in 1999.
