Moroccan, Spanish NGOs call for protection of Gibrlatar's ecosystem

Representatives of NGOs based in Northern Morocco and Southern Spain called, in a meeting convened last weekend in the Atlantic city of Larache, for the protection of Gibraltar's ecosystem.
Participants voiced in a communique released at the end of their meeting worries over ecological problems affecting the region's ecosystem, which will impede the development of south Mediterranean countries.
They also volunteered their contribution to help solve problems related to deforestation, sea pollution and the management of water resources.
The communique urged for implementing a joint plan aiming to increase awareness on the ecosystem of this part of the Mediterranean Sea that was the scene of "dangerous accidents."
They also called on the international community to contribute its share in preserving the region's ecosystem, and in putting an end to the overexploitation of its natural resources, mainly by devising a viable preventive strategy.
The agenda of this meeting which brought together 120 representatives of cultural and development Ngos from southern Spain and northern Morocco, included workshops on deforestation, education and environment.
