Arab message to New York in rejection of war option

It was announced in Damascus yesterday that the Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara will take part in the Arab- 6- member committee which will start tomorrow a tour on world capitals to convey the message of the recent Arab summit in Sharm Esh Sheikh in rejecting war against Iraq and confirming support for the stances of European states in supporting for a peaceful solution to the Iraqi crisis.

The director of the foreign media establishment at the Syrian foreign ministry Butheina Shabaan told the Lebanese daily Assafir in today's issue that the content of the message which will be conveyed during the tour is that "the Arab states are firmly standing in one voice against launching any aggression against Iraq," besides that the "UN inspectors are carrying out their work and Iraq is collaborating by destroying its weapons." She added that the delegations will stress the Arabs joining the voice of the European and the international community to give the inspectors enough time to reach a peaceful solution for the crisis."

Shabaan explained it is not clear whether al-Shara will visit Washington with the delegation which will move from New Work to Washington.

The delegation is expected to meet in New York with the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to brief him on the results of Sharm Esh Sheikh Summit and to take part in the session of the UN Security Council on Friday.
