Turkey-USA, Politics, 3/3/2003
Turkey's parliament in a much anticipated vote rejected US troops deployment on its soil.
The Washington Post quoted on Saturday Prime Minister Abdullah Gul telling reporters "We all have to respect the decision of the parliament. This is the requirement of democracy."
The Washington Post quoted Recep Tayyip Erdogan, leader of the ruling party, saying the parliament's decision as "a completely democratic result...What more do you want?" Turkish citizens overwhelmingly oppose the US deployment according to reported polls.
