Al-Barazani warns against a Kurdish revolution
Iraq, Politics, 3/3/2003

Zalmai Khalil told US that Iraq will be ruled by a military ruler because we are not ready for this mission, and Washington also pressured them to accept giving great responsibilities for certain members who support Israel, preparing for protecting the oil wells for the USA and alleviate the Islamic influence in the new Islamic system.

This, is however, what has been assessed by the opposition group, Higher Council For the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, on the nature of the American talks with the Iraqi opposition after its conference concluded its works on Saturday in Salah Eddine area near Irbil city in Northern Iraq.

It seemed, however, that the reservations expressed by the US White House and the Department of State two days ago on the decision by Salah Eddine conference to appoint a six- member political commission to be the nucleus of the rule for "after Saddam phase" are still there.

Once again, the White House yesterday indicated that "the US believes that the meeting of the coordination and follow up committee at Salah Eddine was a happy opportunity for many brave Iraqis in continuing preparations for a democratic future for Iraq." But is also explained that Washington pins hopes on "a future government for a democratic Iraq, representing the majority." The White House gave no mention to the points of differences, adding "we will continued this work in the coming days, being with those who were represented at the conference or with the other representatives of the vast group of liberal Iraqis, or with the Iraqis who are not liberated yet." The only Sunni in the commission of the 6- member leadership, former foreign minister Adnan al-Baja Jee announced he will not take part in the collective leadership commission.

In a strongest position taken by one of the opposition sides against Turkey, the Kurdish leader Masoud al-Barazni loomed of a "Kurdish revolution" in conclusion of the conference which was attended by the American envoy Zalmai Khalil Zada on that the Kurdish people will "be provoked" if the Turkish army invades the area.

Al-Barazani added "even if the Turkish forces will be under an American military leadership, this will not be accepted by us." He added "The Americans realize well our position and the Kurdish people will revolt to challenge any conspiracy."

Worth noting that the US support of the Kurds conflicts with Turkey's interest who fears the creation of an independent Kurdish state.
