To complete Sharm esh Sheikh mission, Moussa proposed to convene a 'resumed' Arab summit, again
Regional, Politics, 3/3/2003

The secretary general of the Arab League Amre Mousa said yesterday in Cairo that there is now a need for another Arab summit to complete the tasks of the Sharm esh Sheikh Summit which concluded its works on Saturday amid differences which were almost able to break the summit in the last minutes, following the argument between Saudi ArabiaÕs Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz and Libya's Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi, in addition to the initiative of the UAE which proposed the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to step down. The Arab summit neglected the UAE initiative and did not enlist it on its agenda; a matter which angered the UAE.

The AL chief described the summit he proposed as "a resumed summit" following that of Sharm esh Sheikh which he considered as attaining a success in concluding clear and certain decisions issued by the Arab leaders; adding that this means ( having a resumed summit ) following up what the movement mechanism resulted by the recent summit, represented in the mission of the summit assigned to make urgent contacts with sides involved in the Iraqi crisis.

The Egyptian MENA said, quoting Moussa, that this new summit has to re-evaluate the situation in light of what the mission of the delegation will conclude and the results of contacts it will carry out, delegated by the Arab summit, noting that among the tasks of this mission is refocus attention on the Palestinian issue and seeking to find out a fundamental solution for it, according to Moussa.

However, Egyptian observers in Cairo ruled out that Moussa's call will be met, and this is because of the deep atmospheres of differences which dominated the Sharm esh Sheikh summit.
