125 billion to be invested in water related projects

Drinking water and sewage systems will receive investment of LE 125 billion up to 2017, in order to increase water production to 30 million cubic metres per day and the daily sewage system capacity to 25 million cubic metres.
Up to date, LE 55 billion has been invested, bringing daily water capacity to 20 million cubic metres and sewage to 10 million cubic metres.
Housing Minister, Mohammad Ibrahim Soliman, made this statement yesterday at the launching of water and sewage system projects in the governorate of Aswan.
"220 thousand citizens in Aswan have benefited already, he said.
The first project is to modernise and expand Kom Umbo water station to increase its daily capacity from 17 thousand to 34 thousand cubic metres.
The second project includes modernizing a drinking water station to increase its daily capacity to 7 thousand cubic metres.
The third project is to establish a recycling station for sewage water with a daily capacity of 32 thousand cubic metres.
The fourth project is to establish a sewage station in al-Nouba Nasr City with a capacity of 1400 cubic metres daily.
"Currently, there are projects to modernize and extend drinking water and sewage systems to 9 cities in Egypt," he said, adding that they are in cooperation with the US, which has made a grant of LE 315 million.
"Total investment for projects in Aswan is LE 898 million, LE 315 million for drinking water and LE 572 million for sewage," he added.
