Iraqi opposition members send a message the Arab Summit
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 2/27/2003
In a message they addressed yesterday to the Arab summit due on March 1st at Sharm esh Sheikh resort to the east of Egypt, Iraqi opposition members called for supporting the establishment of "a provisional Iraqi leadership in collaboration with the UN," stressing their rejection of the foreign occupation of Iraq if the regime of Saddam Hussein is toppled.
After the signatories of the message held the current Iraqi regime the main responsibility to having such a grave condition, they called on his leadership to quit the rule in order to open the way for averting likely dangers and enabling the Iraqi people, to establish a democratic regime through legislative means.
They added "therefore we have discussed with the UN chief and the security council supporting the Iraqi people to reach this objective. And this will be by the establishment of a provisional Iraqi administration in collaboration with the UN instead of foreign occupation and in preparation to form an Iraqi government via elections and legitimate establishments."
The signatories urged the Arab leaders who will be meeting by the beginning of March "to support this legitimate demand and to seek, altogether with the UN to achieve it so as to maintain Arab solidarity principles and to do everything possible in order to rescue the Iraqi people from likely catastrophes and a destructive war against Iraq."
The message was undersigned by Adnan al-Baja Ji ( former foreign minister), Adib al-Jader ( former minister); Abdul Hassan Zalzalah ( former minister) Ahmad al-Haboubi ( former minister), Issam al-Jalabi ( former minister) and researchers and journalists Fadel al-Jalabi, Farouk Berto, Walid Khadouri and Mahdi al-Hafez.
