Moussa, Maher and the Arab summit
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 2/26/2003

The secretary general of the Arab League Amr Moussa has stated that the ordinary Arab summit will be held on March 1st, noting that there is an Arab majority that supports the convening of this summit.

In an interview with the Orient Radio yesterday, he added that it was decided that the ordinary Arab summit to be held on March 24 and 25, however, due to the dangerous situation in the region, it was decided to convene an early summit on March 1st, unless the majority of the Arab states decide to change this date, noting that this majority is not available now.

On the other hand, the Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Maher said that the Arab summit will be held on March 1st and this summit will be attended by all Arab states, members at the Arab league. He said that postponing this summit will not help to reaching a peaceful solution for the Iraqi crisis.

In a statement for the Orient radio yesterday, Maher added "I am confident that all have recognized that postponing the summit is not in the interest of the case they defend, namely finding out means and ways to achieve the peaceful settlement of the Iraqi crisis in the context of UN resolution 1441.

He expressed his conviction that all the Arab states will attend this summit due to be held on March 1st in Sharm Esh Sheikh, Egypt.
