Morocco-Senegal, Politics, 2/24/2003
President Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal has welcomed ties between his country and Morocco as the best relations existing between two African countries.
The Senegalese President, who was interviewed by MAP news agency, said he reviewed with King Mohammed VI Thursday in Paris on the fringes of the Africa-France summit, best means to further enhance this cooperation.
"We talked mainly of the assistance Morocco extends to us in matters of artificial rain, of which Morocco has full command," he said. Wade recalled, in this connection, Morocco's assistance to Burkina Faso, sole country in the region that benefited this year from rain, while elsewhere there was drought.
Senegal decided to acquire this technology and a Senegalese delegation is currently in Morocco, President Wade disclosed, adding that Morocco also assists Senegal to build water basins.
In transport, Morocco and Senegal will create shortly a sea transport company that will link Casablanca, Nouadhibou (Mauritania), Dakar and Guinea Bissau, he said.
He recalled, in this connection, the success of Air Senegal International, a carrier wherein Morocco's Royal Air Maroc holds shares. "We created together this company, which is the largest regional airliner in Africa. It services all capital cities in East Africa and a daily flight to France," he said, adding the company also services the United States under an accord with South African Airlines.
"This is an extraordinary success story. The Senegal-Morocco Association is even more promising," he said.
