Liberalization of audio-visual media, fundamental to democratization process (moroccan official)
Morocco, Politics, 2/22/2003
The liberalization of the audio-visual media sector in Morocco is "fundamental" to the democratization process under way in the Kingdom, said Morocco's Communication minister and government spokesman.
Nabil Benabdellah, who was host to a radio program aired on Thursday, highlighted "a firm political drive to carry forward the liberalization of audio-visual media, in spite of "snags and negative reactions."
The adoption of legislative texts, along with the royal decree providing for the creation of a high audio-visual body and the law that suppresses the state monopoly in radio and television broadcasting bear witness "to a clear determination aiming to reflect a new image of Morocco's audio-visual realm," he said
The communication department is currently working on the implementation of this reform, he added, stressing that "Morocco, in its drive to materialize a modern and democratic society, should accompany this objective with a comprehensive communication policy."
