A state of alert in Israel, Two Palestinians were killed; 40 detainees, Israel breaks into Nablus, Toulkarem camp
Palestine-Israel, Military, 2/21/2003
Israel has announced utmost state of alert in the lines of its forces of fears of Palestinian operations following the killings it had committed in recent days that claimed the lives of more that 26 Palestinians.
Two Palestinians were killed yesterday by bullets of the Israeli forces upon breaking into Toulkarem camp and al-Qasaba quarters in Nablus in the West Bank and detained more than 40 Palestinians in breaking in and inspection operations which covered several areas in the West Bank and Gaza. The Israeli forces also decided to divide Gaza into three parts and small sectors in order to facilitate its occupation and control.
The Israeli radio said that barriers were laid yesterday at dawn at the cross- oads and the Palestinians were prevented from moving between the southern and northern parts of Gaza.
Palestinian security sources said the Israeli authorities aim behind all these new oppressive measures to prepare for breaking into Gaza and occupying it, noting that the "Gaza massacres which took place on Wednesday was a starting point to occupy the sector."
The sources added that one female and male children were wounded by shells fired by the Israeli tanks to the east and south of the city of Gaza.
In retaliation to Gaza massacre, the Palestinians fired three shells at Morag settlement at the Ghoushe Katif settlement complex in Gaza and detonated an explosive when an Israeli patrol was passing al-Sultan quarters in Rafah.
The Israeli radio said that one Israeli soldier was wounded after he was stabbed by a Palestinian near a barrier to the North of Jerusalem.
Meantime, the founder of the Hamas Movement, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, announced continued support against the "brutal Israeli aggression." In a statement to the al-Sharq ( Orient) radio, Sheikh Yassin condemned "the international silence concerning the acts of killing and destruction taking place in the Palestinian territories."
