Tomb No. 11 at Qorna yields wooden sarcophagus
Egypt, Local, 2/20/2003
A wooden sarcophagus was recently found in tomb No. 11 at Qorna on the west bank of the Nile at Luxor.
The tomb is known to be that of Hagoti, a finance minister in the reign of Queen Hatshepsut (1505-1483 BC).
Inside the sarcophagus was a mummy of a woman, Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni announced recently.
The mummy has to be X-rayed in order to find amulets and scarab beetle charms beneath the linen wraps, which may help pinpoint the date of the burial.
Archaeologists say the mummy is most probably of a later period, possibly the XXVI Dynasty (663-525 BC).
