Syria's National Progressive Front announces candidates for parliamentary elections

The candidates list of the Syrian National Progressive Front which includes seven Syrian parties, including the ruling Baath Party yesterday in Damascus was announced candidates for the parliamentary elections, due on March 2nd.

The announcement of the list coincided with the two lists of Damascus countryside and Quneitra. Lists of candidates for other Syrian governorates are expected to be announced within the few coming days.

The Damascus list includes 16 members, mainly the two members of the Baath Party regional leadership Abdul Qader Qaddoura ( former speaker of the Syrian parliament) and Muhammad Farouk Abu al-Shamat. It also includes the secretary of the Baath party branch in Damascus Issam al-Jamal, the chairman of the National Union of Syrian Students Ammar Saati and the recently retired deputy foreign minister Suleiman Haddad.

The list also includes the economist Mahmoud al- Abrash, lawyer Muhammad al-Hallaq, and several Baathists, while Ammar Bukdash represents the branch of the communist party of Khaled Bukdash ( his late father), while Henin Nimer represents the communist party of Youssef al-Faisal branch, and Marwan Bunni represents the Arab socialist federation party.
