New redeployment of the Syrian forces in Lebanon

Upon directives of the two presidents, Syria's Bashar al-Assad, Lebanon's Emile Lahoud, and in the framework of cooperation and coordination agreement between Syria and Lebanon and according to al-Taif Agreement, Chief of General Staff of the Army and Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Hasan Tourkmani and an accompanying military delegation on Tuesday paid a visit to Lebanon.
Lt. Gen. Tourkmani visited the Lebanese President, Emile Lahoud, and discussed with him ways of boosting cooperation and ties between the two armies of both states, Syria and Lebanon under the region's current situations.
Earlier, L.T. Gen. Tourkmani and the accompanying delegation visited the Lebanese Defenses Minister, Khalil al-Hrawi and the Lebanese Army Commander, Michael Suleiman.
Talks during both meetings dealt with cooperation and coordination between the two armies including redeployment of some Syrian army units serving in Lebanon according to the defensive and security requirements.
The talks also dealt with the current situation in the region including the situation in the Palestinian territories and the Iraqi issue. The two sides stressed the importance of joint Arab work to avert the region dangers of war.
