Assafir: On the American plan in Iraq aftermath Saddam
Iraq-USA, Politics, 2/18/2003
Opposition Iraqi sources said that several leaderships in the Iraqi opposition were informed during the past three days by the American ambassador Zalmai Khalil on what was decided by the American administration of plans for the aftermath Saddam Hussein phase.
The sources explained to the Lebanese daily Assafir that Zalman informed several members of the opposition leaders that the American forces will assume the responsibility of keeping security in Iraq for a one year period, and that Washington rejects that the next opposition meeting will form a provisional government outside Iraq, and that the US will form a consultation council to provide consultancy for those who will assume power.
The sources continued that after the direct American control on Iraq, all political posts will be canceled and only technical and posts and those for specialists will survive.
The sources continued that the American plan also covers a warning to the Kurds against attempting to enter the two cities of Karkouk and al-Mousel or any attempt to declare a Federation unilaterally or to enter areas situated outside Kurdistan.
The American plan also permits the Turkish forces to incur several kilometers into the Iraqi territories in order to prevent an intensive flow of the Kurdish refugees and to preserve security on the Turkish territories.
