Omani- Iranian talks on ME conditions

A meeting was held at the headquarters of the Omani foreign ministry yesterday between the Omani and the Iranian sides chaired by the Omani minister of foreign affairs Youssef Bin Alawi and the Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi and dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries and conditions in the region.

In a joint press conference following the meeting, the two ministers stressed the need of continued efforts aiming at finding out a peaceful outlet for the Iraqi issue.

Kharazi warned that the region is facing the dangers of war and countries of this region should not permit the eruption of such a war because it will affect the region as a whole.

He said that the UN Security Council should be the forum for disseminating peace and amity in the world.

The Iranian foreign minister expressed his satisfaction over the report of UN inspectors at the UN security council, which stressed the continuity of the inspection operations in Iraq. For his part, Bin Alawi said that the military build up does not mean that war is inevitable. He stressed his country's position on that it will not permit taking part any way in an action against Iraq or any other Arab state.
