Khartoum expects a peace agreement with the rebels in 2003

The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael has stressed that there is great hope to signing a peace agreement between the Sudanese government and the rebels in 2003 and that current conditions now are better following the suspension of the acts of violence.
Ismael indicated that there is a vast Arab move in the context of the Arab League' moves to support Sudan's unity through political and economic efforts.
He indicated that the Arab Ministerial Committee which held its meeting in January in Khartoum under the chairmanship if the AL secretary general and in line with which a meeting was held for the AL Funds in January in Cairo, held its meeting yesterday in order to draw needed arrangements to contribute to the projects that ensure work opportunities to the citizen in southern Sudan and contribute to Sudan's building and development.
The Sudanese minister added that the Arab Non Governmental Organizations will hold a meeting on March 8 and 9 in Khartoum with the participation of the AL chief and its delegate for Sudan's affairs. A matter which will strengthen the unionist trend movement and peace trend in Sudan. Ismael added that there is an African inclination towards solving the conflict inside the African continent. A matter which also contributes to the creation of a state of detente in Sudan's foreign relations.
Ismael, on the other hand, will take place in the second meeting of the Arab investment and financing funds which are concerned with the development and building of southern Sudan.
Worthy mentioning that Khartoum has proposed a list of investment and service project in order to boost southern Sudan's economic status and these projects cover the areas of electricity, sewage system, waters and road construction and other related projects as an incentive to the people of Southern Sudan to abide by the option of unity.
On the other hand, the Sudanese peace negotiations between the government and the rebels, will be resumed by the beginning of March in Kenya with the discussions on Eibi, the Blue Nile southern area and al-Nouba mountains. Khartoum has expressed its regret over the support provided by the USA for the rebels.
In a separate track, Khartoum ambassador in Kampala Siraj Eddine Hamid said that President Yuri Mousivini made commitment to the Sudanese authorities to prevent the passage of weapons for the Sudanese rebels through the Ugandan territories.
On the other hand, Khartoum has witnessed Sudanese- Ethiopian military talks during which cooperation relations in security and military issues of concern to the two countries were reviewed.
