Kuwait-Regional, Politics, 2/17/2003

Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister on Saturday, announced KuwaitÕs participation in the coming emergency Arab summit called by Egypt on Friday.

Sheikh Sabah, in statements to the Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA), welcomed the emergency summit that came at the request of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Answering a question on the level of Kuwaiti representation at the summit, Sheikh Sabah said that Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah would decide the issue.

Answering another question on whether the emergency summit will be a substitute to the regular one set for March, Sheikh Sabah said that it was not possible to hold the two Arab summit within one month.

President Mubarak on Friday called for holding an emergency Arab summit within the week starting as of February, for a unified Arab stance to prevent war.

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed alluded to the two reports presented to the United Nations Security Council by international arms chief inspector Hans Blix and IAEA director general Mohamed Al-Baradei.

He expressed hope that the Arabs would adopt a unified stance at the UNSC regarding the Iraqi issue.
