Aziz meeting the Pope: Washington seeks to redraw regional map
Iraq-USA, Politics, 2/15/2003
The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz has stressed in Rome Yesterday where he delivered a message to Pope John Paul II from the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, that Baghdad will "make every thing possible to help the UN inspectors find the final reality on that there are no mass destruction weapons in Iraq," and that "Iraq does not own the necessary means to attack any country outside its borders."
He denied any link of al-Qaida organization, accusing the US of seeking to " e-draw the map of Iraq, Syria and Saudi Arabia through dividing them to smaller states," in the service of Israel, at a time when the Vatican stressed that Aziz gave assertions on his government's desire to collaborate with the international community.
In a press conference in Rome, just hours after UN chief weapons inspector and the director of the international agency for atomic energy gave their reports to the UN security council, that "Iraq does not have mass destruction weapons." He added "we will do everything possible within our capacity to help them ( the UN inspectors ) to reach the final truth on that there are no mass destruction weapons in Iraq." Aziz was asked on whether Iraq will attack Israel and he said "we do not have the necessary means to attack any country outside our borders." He added "in addition to taking and controlling our oil resources, we are convinced that President George Bush seeks to redraw the map of Iraq, Syria and Saudi Arabia through dividing them to smaller and weak entities that are unable to preserve their independence with the aims to facilitate it for Israel and the US to control the region."
