Washington denounces violations of the Sudanese forces against civilians
Sudan-USA, Politics, 2/13/2003

The US administration has criticized what it described the repeated violations carried out by the Sudanese government of the cease- fire agreement concluded with the rebels.

The spokesman for the US Department of State, Richard Boucher, denounced the attacks as unjustified and as against civilians, claiming that the government forces and the armed militias intercept the civilians in their attacks and displace them.

The American spokesman has called on the Sudanese government to prove the goodwill in implementing the peace process through honoring the items amended to the ceasefire agreement signed in October 2002.

A report by the UN observers published last Sunday said that the battles which erupted in the higher Nile area, to the south of Sudan, recently obliged thousands of civilians to flee from their villages.

The civil war which erupted in Sudan since 20 years between the governmental forces and the rebels of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) resulted in killing more than 2 million persons, and displacing more than 4 millions.
