ISESCO urges action to end blockade on palestinian educational institutes
Palestine-Regional, Education, 2/12/2003
The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO, a Rabat-based body of the Organization of the Islamic Conference), urged the ministers of education of member states to pool their efforts to undertake urgent measures to end the blockade imposed on the Palestinian educational institutions and to guarantee the Palestinian people's right to education.
In urgent letters sent to education ministers of Islamic countries, ISESCO's director general, Abdulaziz Othmane Altwaijri, warned against Israeli occupation authorities' continuous violations embodied in the closure of many schools and universities and putting them under siege. He also denounced the destruction of schools and killing school children or students and preventing them from reaching their schools and universities.
"Recently, 299 Palestinian school children and students were killed. The Israeli violations pose a serious threat to their future," said the ISESCO's Director General.
Altwaijri also called upon all "to act urgently to bring pressure to bear on Israel at the international level, to end its continuous aggressions against the Palestinian people."
"The silence observed over the Israeli crimes, underscores the double standard policy which is certain to exacerbate the tension and instability in the whole world."
