Bin Laden's tape; US accusations and Al-Jazira TV's denial
Qatar, Politics, 2/12/2003

Prior to broadcasting Usama Bin Laden's tape on Tuesday evening, the repetition of denials and accusations between Washington and al-Jazira TV channel continued. Washington had stressed that there is a tape for Bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaida organization, while al-Jazira denied to have any tape.

Washington who had confirmed by its Secretary of State Colin Powell the existence of the tape announced that broadcasting it is just a matter of time, while the Qatari al-Jazira TV has denied the existence of a new tape.

Prior to broadcasting Bin Laden's tape, an understanding was made between the American authorities and the government of Qatar as the American side studied the tape to test its credibility.

However, the announcement made by the US Secretary of State embarrassed the Qatari officials who regretted the US Department Of State announcement about the content of the tape before it was broadcasted.
