An explosion in Ein al-Helweh; shopping center in Lebanon
Lebanon, Local, 2/12/2003
A Palestinian source said that a mortar was thrown yesterday at dawn at the house of one member of the Fatah movement which is led by the chairman of the Palestinian authority Yasser Arafat in Ein al-Helweh camp for the Palestinian refugees in south Lebanon.
The explosion resulted in material losses but no human casualties were reported. However, Palestinian sources said that repeating such attacks gives the impression that it attempts to destabilize stability and perpetuate tension.
Ein al-Helweh is the largest Palestinian camp in Lebanon which includes some 70,000 Palestinian refugees.
On the other hand, the Lebanese police said that another explosion by mortars targeted yesterday a shopping center for the British "Spins" in Tripoli, the largest cities of northern Lebanon and no casualties were reported. The incident result in a blowing up an explosive of 800 Grams weight and resulted in material losses. Explosions experts also found two other explosives implanted near the building and were defused, according to these sources.
The administration of the Lebanese police refused to comment on the incident.
Worthy mentioning that similar attacks targeted last November restaurants that belong to American companies in several Lebanese cities including Tripoli.
