Egyptian- Syrian- Libyan summit in Sharem esh Sheikh

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad returned home on Sunday evening following a brief visit to Egypt where he took part at the Syrian-Egyptian-Libyan Summit which was held in Sharem Esh Sheikh.

The president was seen off by Egyptian President Honsni Mubarak, Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher, Arab League Secretary General, Amr Moussa, Chief of the Egyptian Presidential Affairs, Zakaria Azmi, and the Syrian Ambassador to Egypt,Yousuf Ahmad. Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara returned with the president.

Earlier, President al-Assad held a work-luncheon attended by Libya's Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi.

The luncheon was also attended by Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara, Saudi Foreign Minister, Saud al-Faisal, Secretary of the Popular Committee For African Unity, Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa,the Syrian Ambassador to Egypt, Youssef Ahmad and members of the Egyptian delegation.

The talks of the three leaders dealt with the various aspects of the Iraqi question where there was consensus that any military action against Iraq is unjustified and would have dangerous consequences on unity and integrity of Iraq and the region.

The three leaders stressed the necessity for reaching a peaceful solution to this issue particularly that Iraq is cooperating positively with the international inspectors who should be given time enough to finish their mission.

The leaders stressed the necessity for preserving Arab solidarity and unity of ranks in this stage in the face of all possibilities.

The forthcoming meeting of the Arab foreign ministers who are scheduled to examine the situation and present their report and required recommendations to the Arab leaders, was also reviewed.

The leaders reviewed some of the European stances that oppose the war and the need for these countries' support to finding a peaceful solution to the Iraqi question.

Meantime, a meeting was held on Sunday among al-Assad, Mubarak and Qathafi.

Later on President Assad received at his residence at Sharem esh Sheikh Saudi Foreign Minister, Saud al-Faisal. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara.
