Austrian FM in Morocco part of efforts to peacefully settle Iraq crisis
Morocco-Austria, Politics, 2/8/2003
Austrian Foreign Minister, Ms. Ferrero Waldner, on Friday said her visit to Morocco is part of ongoing efforts to settle the Iraq crisis through peaceful channels.
Ms. Ferrero, who was speaking to the press after a meeting with King Mohammed VI in Marrakesh, said she came to Morocco to back efforts made by Greece, acting chairman of the European Union, in this connection.
Europe and the Arab states share the same concerns regarding the Iraq crisis, said the official, who had arrived earlier in the day in Morocco.
"We wish to endeavor for peace even at such a critical time," she said, adding "Arab countries, and especially Morocco, Austria and Europe want that this (Iraq) issue be solved by the Security Council.
"There is still a chance to settle the Iraq crisis. And this chance should absolutely be seized," she insisted.
Waldner is visiting Morocco part of a tour that will take her to Algeria and Tunisia.
