Izvestia: Aziz threatens a second Stalingrad
Iraq-Russia, Politics, 2/8/2003

Iraq has threatened the Americans and the Britons of a "second Stalingrad" if they invade Iraq, at a time when Baghdad showed further cooperation with the UN inspection teams, and following a separate meeting held by the inspectors with an Iraqi scientist for three hours, the Iraqis opened the doors of two missile sites in order to refute statements made by the US Secretary of State Colin Powell in which he indicated that the two sites are used in manufacturing banned weapons.

In an interview published by the Russian daily Izvestia, the Iraqi deputy prime minister Tareq Aziz said that "Iraq will be a second Stalingrad for the American and British aggressors."

When he was asked about the development emerged in the Russian position to the possibility of approving the American evidences, Aziz replied very cautiously "we do hope that the Kremlin will continue opposing the war in Iraq because this war will be damaging for Russia's interests in the region."
