UN Security Council can't even get Israel to obey any international law; violating Lebanon's soverignty
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 1/31/2003

The Israeli warplanes yesterday evening carried out mock and provocative raids in the airspace of south Lebanon, reaching the airspace of the city of Sidon, at a time when the UN Security Council was renewing the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon, in a decision taken unanimously. The UN decision coincided with a warning against "the grave Israeli violations at the border line in South Lebanon."

The UN resolution, number 1461, extended the mission of UNIFIL which expired yesterday evening, until July 31st, 2003, a common practice since the founding of UNIFIL in 1987.

The UN Security Council announced its "condemnation of all acts of violence." It expressed deep concern over the grave violations of the border lines by air, sea and land and urgently called for stopping these violations.

The UN Security Council congratulated the Lebanese government over the measures it had taken to impose its authority on south Lebanon as a whole, especially deployment of the Lebanese armed forces. Worthy mentioning that the number of the UN force to south Lebanon was decreased to 2000 soldiers by January since the liberation of south Lebanon from the Israeli occupation.

The new UN resolution also said that the UN Security Council "note with satisfaction" the contribution given by the UN to the process of dismantling mines and calls of the international group to support this effort "though material and moral support."

Worth noting, that the UN Security Council has a long list of resolutions concerning Israeli violations of international law, that the council seems to be always impotent to effectively force Israel to abide by, due to the US protection of Israel's violation of international law.
