Jordan gets 6 F-16 jet fighters
Jordan-USA, Military, 1/31/2003
Jordan on Wednesday received 6 F-16 jet fighters which were the first shift of 16 fighter planes offered by the US to Jordan.
In 1997 Jordan had received a similar shift that was declared at that time and came then in the framework of a military aid program of 300 million approved by the former US President Bill Clinton as a reward for Jordan over signing a peace agreement with Israel in 1994.
In addition to the jet fighters, the military donation included helicopters, and armored vehicles.
A statement issued by the American embassy in Amman said that the delivered planes "constitute the base for a group of F-16 fighters and the others will be delivered later."
The handing over ceremony was held in Muwaffaq al-Salti air base in the presence of Prince Faisal Bin al-Hussein, the commander of the Jordanian air force, and the US ambassador in Amman Edward Ghneim.
