BBC: UN Atomic Energy official denies Iraqi violations
Iraq-UN, Politics, 1/31/2003

Mohamed ElBaradei, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that Iraq has not yet violated materially the resolution of the UN Security Council to dismantling its weapons, and thereby expressing opposition to what was concluded by the US and Britain following a presentation for the reports of both ElBaradei and the chairman of the Inspection and investigation committee Hans Blix to the UN Security Council.

In a statement to the BBC yesterday, ElBaradei said that the inspection is in need of additional five months to assert that Iraq is free from banned weapons. He explained that there is Iraqi violations of the UN resolutions no. 1441 but this did not reach the extent to being a material violation. He reiterated that by the ultimate end, the UN Security Council is the side which will make assessment on this issue.

However, ElBaradei warned Iraq in that it has to change its current attitude in dealing with the inspection operations in order to guarantee reaching a peaceful solution to the crisis.
