King Mohammed: an independent judiciary essential for a sound society; protects judiciary from influence
Morocco, Judicial, 1/30/2003

Morocco's King Mohammed VI announced on Wednesday the creation of a welfare foundation for justice staff to cater for the material conditions of magistrates, justice clerks, and the justice ministry staff.

In a speech opening the judiciary year, the sovereign announced a series of measures to improve the social and professional situation of judges and judiciary clerks, including a social welfare foundation, an association of justice staff and the revision of the statute of clerks.

He explained that these measures are meant to shield this category of staff against all temptations and deviations.

The king further stressed the need for "a sound and modern training" of judges and of all those working in justice-related fields.
