Military build up for the rebels in Southern Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 1/30/2003
The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael has stressed that there is military build up for the rebels in southern Sudan area and on the Eastern borders of the country.
In statements on Tuesday evening, Ismael said that the Sudanese government observes these moves and military build up but it will not be the side which will start first any military operations, stressing the need of having monitoring committees for the cease- fire in order to be able to specify who is violating the truce.
Ismael criticized the statements made by the official spokesman for the US Department of State who held the Sudanese government responsible for violating the ceasefire. Ismael said that these statements lack neutrality and are affected by the American pressure groups and the organizations which support the rebels.
The Sudanese foreign minister renewed his confirmation that his country's government is serious to maintain the process of peace and is careful to continue negotiations between the two sides and not to violate the cease fire.
