Cairo dialogue to be resumed; A unified leadership of 12 Palestinian factions to run the conflict
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 1/28/2003

It seemed that the Cairo dialogue between the Palestinian groups which is sponsored by the chairman of the Egyptian general intelligence Lt. Gen. Omar Suleiman has reached a conclusion to postpone the full agreement and to confine to what can be agreed upon through announcing a "joint political statement" relating to the formation of "a national united leadership" on the ground that the talks would be resumed during the two coming weeks.

The chairman of the delegation of the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine Maher al-Taher said "we have formed a formulation committee in order to draw the draft for the joint political statement." He added "the draft statement will be debated by the participants in order to approve it and to issue it by the end of the meetings" which were presumed to be concluded yesterday.

Al-Taher explained that the big issue is to form a "united national leadership of 12 Palestinian groups, including groups that fall under the PLO in addition to Hamas and the Islamic Jihad." Earlier, al-Taher said that "the united national leadership" will form a framework that will permit the inclusion of all groups into the decisions of the Palestinian Authority.
