Morocco's human rights achievements highlighted
Morocco, Politics, 1/27/2003

Morocco's Human Rights minister, Mohamed Aujjar highlighted the Kingdom's human rights initiatives geared to consecrate the country's democratic choice.

The minister, who was speaking at a meeting Friday, said the appointment by King Mohammed VI of the Human Rights Consultative Council's members, Wali Al Madhalim (Ombudsman), the amendment of a series of laws and the transparent legislative elections held last September, are moves that reflect a genuine political determination to safeguard human rights and meet current challenges.

The meeting, held in the presence of Human Rights High Commissioner Representative, Mrs Brigitte Lacroix, was sponsored by the Moroccan Human Rights Documentation, Information and Training Center.

The center was created as part of an international accord signed in Geneva in 1999 between Morocco, the UN Human Right High Commissioner and the UNDP.
